Frequently asked questions

The RFI and UAS

Everything you need to know before requesting an unmanned aerial system.

What is an RFI?

RFI stands for Request for Information. It is a questionnaire in which your organization describes its needs: mission, territory, operating conditions and required capabilities.

What is the RFI used for?

It lets the manufacturer evaluate your requirements and propose the UAS configuration that best fits your operation: aircraft type, endurance, sensors, range and training.

Why do we need an RFI for a drone?

Every mission is different. A UAS for border surveillance is not the same as one for risk management or land surveys. The RFI avoids generic offers and lets us present the right option from the start.

Does filling out the RFI commit me to buy?

No. The RFI is not a contract. It expresses real interest in the equipment and lets us schedule an exploratory meeting to present the best option.

Who should fill out the RFI?

The person in charge of the area that will use the equipment in your organization. Whoever fills it out is responsible for its content and signs it.

What happens to my RFI information?

It is used only to evaluate your requirement and is shared with the manufacturer under a confidentiality agreement. The response reaches you through EMIBEN.

Can municipalities request UAS?

Yes. Local governments can request UAS for public safety, risk management, cadastre, public works and the environment.

What does my organization gain by filling out the RFI?

You receive a proposal tailored to your mission instead of a generic offer. You avoid paying for capabilities you don't need, compare options on technical grounds and shorten the procurement process, because the manufacturer works from your real requirements from the start.

What information should I have ready to fill out the RFI?

The mission the UAS will perform, the area or territory to cover, operating conditions (altitude, weather, time of day), the flight time and range you need, the type of camera or sensors, and how many people will operate it.
